The Blues Series > Artist Statement the blues series is dealing with the notion of the impermanence of one own's perception. our thoughts and emotions are mainly governed by individual or sequentual moments of perception, which define our personal experience of the situation - mostly on a highly subjective level. i see no need in calling for objectivity -anything other than recognising what 'works ' in any particular instance orientated by the needs of society in future-, but rather want to focus on the difference we can make for ourselves by how we view our surroundings. "we see what we are" can be used as a term to explain most of the encounters in our lives, meaning what base attitude (which again has been shaped through our past experiences originating in thought and belief) we choose to bring into any one particular situation will define how we will see it, respond to it and remeber it in future. by this we take full responsibility for our entire life as such, the sum of all experiences. here the question arises as to where there is any room for the development of one's mind and soul if the vicious circle of experience based on experience can not solely be broken through will, which is essentially thought. at this point we arrive at the base and reason of all human action, belief. belief is independent from absolute proof of its existence or reality, is not diminished by the uncertainty of its effectiveness and is permanent yet changeable. despite these characteristics it is the initial foundation for thought regarding any expression of life. although our attitude seems closely connected to our belief system, it is founded by our thoughts which determine whether a situation is "good" or bad" and our resulting general opinion about it which then transforms into our attitude. through this we define our actions, and within these particularly our reactions. subsequently it is pointless to try to change our individual actions as this change will lack integrity and be of short-living nature. if we disagree with any behaviour or action, we need to address the according belief system to initiate change. the responsibility of all is ours - we choose our set of beliefs and therefore our life. belief - thought - attitude - action |
