The Duality Series > Artist Statement

duality is a concept we experience in all different aspects of life, but how aware are we of it resulting in a wholistic appearance, duality being wholism? the blues series is dealing with the notion of the impermanence of one own's perception.

one is opposite to the other, yet through what they are opposites of, they are infinitely united. only through the definition of one we have a perception and an understanding of the other. it appears to be impossible to conceive both at the same time, yet together they are the basis of all creation and existence and are finally inseparable - ONE.

i believe that there is a way to see the world without existing opposites, all just being a varying degree of the same manifestation. black and white being varying degrees of gray, by far not the limits of gray, but rather simply on either end of the visual spectrum. do we dare to acknowledge that our entire perception might be similarly limited in other aspects as well?

the crisis we currently find ourselves in - in our political, sociological, economical and spiritual development - could be resolved by the final comprehension of us as human beings in fact not being separated either, simply representing centres of energy density. this would make all fights over land, relationships, money and reputation obsolete as there would be an absolute interest in the well-being of any thing, because of its direct effect on ourselves - we would become unable to work for solely our own benefit because we would not see ourselves detached from any thing more.

just as the air in the kitchen smells differently from the air in the bedroom next door, they can still not be separated from each other and will drift into and affect one another.
all is energy and energy is omnipotent an permanent.

in my current work i am using the symbol of duality to represent the absoluteness of wholism: one being the same as the other, only different and the two being absolutely reliant on each other though they will never be perceived at the same time or in the same way.
