The main speed increases involve delivering a usable web page faster than standard dial-up. One of the reasons a usable web page is delivered to you faster is because images on the web page are compressed. Q. McAfee Firewall Error?
(McAfee Internet Security Suite and the Accelerator crash if the Accelerator is installed first!)
This issue appears on Windows 98/ME. The McAfee Internet Security Suite installs an LSP which conflicts with others. This LSP will be reinstalled even if it is removed; the McAfee Internet Security Suite checks its state at Windows startup and re-installs the LSP if required. Although the Privacy Service is the component (of the McAfee Internet Security Suite) causing the conflict. The error messages generated can point to other components such as McAfee Personal Firewall Plus.
Solution:
1. Reinstall both applications in an appopriate sequence:
a) Uninstall both the Accelerator and the McAfee Internet Security Suite.
b) Reboot.
c) Reinstall the McAfee Internet Security Suite, reboot if prompted.
d) Reinstall the Accelerator, reboot if prompted.
2. Uninstall the email and FTP acceleration component of the Accelerator:
a) Exit the Accelerator.
b) Run “Command Prompt”, browse to the default directory of the Accelerator
c) Type “instlsp –u –s”.
Please note that the above methods prevent the LSP conflict by not installing the email and FTP acceleration component. If the user prefers to keep the email and FTP acceleration over McAfee’s Privacy Service, please follow this procedure:
3. Uncheck “Privacy Service” during the installation of the McAfee Internet Security Suite:
a) Uninstall both the Accelerator and the McAfee Internet Security Suite, reboot if prompted.
b) Reinstall the McAfee Internet Security Suite. Make sure to uncheck the “Privacy Service” option.
c) Reboot if prompted.
d) Reinstall the Accelerator, reboot if prompted.
Q. How do I enable Norton Internet Security 2004 to work with the Accelerator client?
Norton does not scan on port 5400, which is used by the Accelerator client to proxy HTTP traffic. Warning - These changes will fix this issue. However, the solution is not supported by the Accelerator client since it involves making changes to another application. Click on Options for Norton Internet Security (NIS). Then, select the Firewalls Tab. In the HTTP port list, click on Add. Enter the Accelerator client local listening port number (default 5400, or whatever has been set by your ISP). Click OK to accept the changes. NIS2004 will now scan the traffic passing through the Accelerator client.
Q. I am using Zone Alarm 5.0 and I am experiecing issues, what can I do?
There is a knock software conflict with Zone Alarm v5.0. Running Zone Alarm 5 with the Accelerator client will cause Windows XP to freeze when you try to visit websites and users won't be able to run programs, open folders, or use the task manager. The only way to terminate this state is to turn off the power and then restart.
1. Upgrade Zone Alarm to version 5.1.
2. Downgrade Zone Alarm to version 4.5 from v5.0
Before the release of Zone Alarm version 5.1, it was recommended (on their forum) to fully uninstall Zone Alarm v 5 and reinstall Zone Alarm v 4.5 if any system crash or software conflict happened. Version 5.1 is available after July 29, 2004. It has been verified that the Accelerator client works fine with both Zone Alarm v 4.5 and v5.1.
Q. Why do my Photo's look distorted?
This is adjustable within the Accelerator client settings. Right click Locall Fast Dial Accelerator, then click settings and slide the bar to the right to improve image quality.
